under watchful eyes

Kak Long has been spending a considerable amount of time with her best friend recently. Not that I don't mind. She's just being a tween kid. That's what they do in their free time. Hanging around.

She has been asking permission to do homework at her friend's house several times after school which is pretty ok by me. As much as I want to trust her, can't help feeling a bit monitorial sometimes. I guess I'm just being a protective mom. That dreadful time has come for me to be on the look-out for my eldest daughter. With all the horror stories you hear about teenagers in the news of late, I was of course worried for her safety. Even if her friend lives about 6 doors away from ours! Yes, I am that paranoid.

This morning, Kak Long reminded me again (in case I forget) that she's going to her friend's house at ETD 4pm and that she'll be doing science project about extinct animals or something and maths revision. She's also joining some friends later in the evening to look for certain insects and plants in the bushes near the playground. Yeah, she is one busy entomologist and botanist all roll into one. She was very precise in details about the stuff she's doing. I envision a career as a planner or personal assistant if she can't decide what she wants to be when she grows up. She is so good at reminding people as well. Ha ha!

And she is also reminded to be home before maghrib prayer starts calling. Pronto!

candle in the wind

There was a blackout this morning. I only notice it when it felt warmer in the room. The husband had already woken up and call TNB to make a report. It was about 5am. Apparently, there was only a row of houses affected including ours. The opposite row wasn't. Then we went back to sleep. Still got that one hour left to catch up on sleep before the 6am alarm starts to blare. Haish, sempat gak tuh. He he!

Later, got up in black pitch room. Searched for the torchlight and went downstairs to look for candles. Since api takde, I couldn't iron the kids uniform. Kesian kat anak-anak aku pegi sekolah dgn baju tak bergosok. Hu hu! Thank God, the husband's clothes dah siap bergosok minggu sudah. Long story short, while waiting for the school van to fetch the kids, I saw the TNB guy was still fixing outside. I asked what was wrong. This blackout happens a lot in my area especially the same row of houses. He said the wires got burnt and couldn't explain why. Oh well, fine by me.

Saw two neighbours talking to each other on the same subject. Heard one of them said, perasan api takde since 4.20am. I was like, what?? 4.20am dah perasan but no one bothered to call TNB?? One neighbour even had the cheek to say, they were too lazy to call TNB and that somebody will eventually call. Yeah, that was us by the way.

Some attitude my neighbours have. Can't depend too much on them when emergency strikes. Grrr!

forgetting miss daisy

Absent-mindedness has got the better of me lately. Ok, that's not entirely true. The truth is, I am a forgetful middle-aged woman verging on senility. Huh!

I was doing laundry last night. Why would I do laundry at 10pm when I can do it in the morning shift since I'm a full time homemaker remains a big question mark. Maybe because I was too busy ber-facebooking during daytime? Ha ha!

Anyways, after I had done putting dirty clothes in the washer, I proceeded to the kitchen to clean up the mess and took out garbage. After that, I watered the plants, arranged the slippers and shoes on the shoe rack, swept the porch and switched off the light outside before went back in. Folded some clothes while watching TV. Heard the washer gave a beeping sound signalling the process is over. By the time it ended, I had become exhausted and thought of hanging the clothes in the early morning so I took out the clothes and put them in the basket and went upstairs to my bedroom.

The next morning, as I was preparing breakfast for the kids, I took out the laundry and as I opened the door, found the grille door was wide open. I asked Kak Ngah who was lounging in the living room if she had opened the door this morning. She shook her head and said no. Kak Long wasn't feeling well last night so she's on medical leave today and still sleeping in her room. Could the husband had forgotten to lock the door when he left the house? Highly impossible coz he's also on medical leave today and still tucked in bed.

Ting tong! That's when I realised I had actually forgot to lock the damn doors last night! Ya Rabbi! I had inadvertently welcoming all penyangaks and perampoks to enter my house and steal all they want!

It was a blessing in disguise that the husband was not the first person to find out or else I'd be like listening to about 10 pages of long lectures from him. Phew!

I guess, I should start taking that kismis and fish oil for memory function. You know, those supplements that our mothers used to force us to eat especially when we had big exams. Don't want something like that to happen again. No sirree!

*Note to self:- set a daily reminder on the cellphone that says, "Lock your doors and take your medications before going to bed tonight"*

girl gone crazy

Getting married to a laptop? Fancy that.

I read with amusement and total disbelief of a 24 year old woman from London who intends to marry her long-time companion in a form of a laptop - Macbrook Pro 17 she calls as Alex! It appears that even her mother had approved the relationship and gave her blessing. What a cuckoo family.

How exactly is she going to accomplish conjugal activities with her laptop husband is beyond my wildest and craziest imagination. LOL.

the avid photographer

Little Bee has acquired another interesting skill lately - taking pictures of himself in various pose! Such a narcissist for a small kid eh? Now I know what that little rascal been up to whenever my cellphone goes missing from its usual parking spot. Ha ha!

I really have no idea why he has such penchant for showing his mouth wide-open. Must be his trademark. LOL!

thats a picture of his spiderman logo t-shirt he's wearing. I dont think he has eyes for details LOL!

Glee-d!

I was totally glued to the tv when watching this. There's something well, gleeful about musical comedy like this one. Set in high school, its basically a story about the underdogs, the ones who are not popular at school. Its always a winning theme. And the songs are cool, mostly remake of popular hits back then.

I've never heard Journey's Don't Stop Believing until Glee's version last night. Nice song.

* Glee is aired on star world every wednesday at 9pm*

sisters act

the sisters like to play dress up with each other but its always Little Bee who ends up as the reluctant participant.

tak ada kerja cari kerja...

I was really bengang when Kak Ngah came back from school and complained that the tudung she is wearing was deemed as unsuitable by her class teacher. Huh?

I asked her what her teacher meant by unsuitable. She said its because the tudung has fancy details and its not allowed by school regulations. Fancy details? The tudung wasn't made from shiny or transparent fabric and not even embroidered. It was just some tiny holes punched along the end that resembles a pattern. I thought it looked nice and unique.

Now that the ultimatum had been given as in her name will be jotted down by the school prefects if she still wears it, I had no choice but to send all of her tudungs for alteration.

I wish the school concentrates on more substantial issues than petty ones like this. Sheesh!

the best & worst dressed on Golden Globe

Courtney Cox (of Friends sitcom) looks ravishing in this lovely black gown..

Mariah Carey's low plunging neckline really accentuate her well-endowed assets. Love it!

Tina Fey went 30 feet rock-bottom in this dress. so sad!

Miss Congeniality, Sandra Bullock didn't shine in this dress either. I hope she picks a better one this upcoming Oscar award...

Amy Adams looks sloppy in this dress. watelahappen? I don't think she could enchant people with that thing draped around her. urghh!

Watched The Golden Globe this morning. Can't help feeling the show was a bit boring with Ricky Gervais as the host. There goes my precious 3 hours for nothing. Yucks! I hate his jokes, they are not funny (at least to me) and I can't even fathom what he's talking about. Must be the British slang. Pekat ya amat!

Someone ought to bring back Ellen De Generes!

Ok, I've got like 30 seconds before the music plays on background (thats a cue to shorten the speech) and here goes;

  • Best Picture: Avatar (the first sci-fi movie to win, to my knowledge so far..)
  • Best Director: James Cameron (also won Best Director for Titanic 12 years ago)
  • Best Actor: Jeff Bridges (for The Crazy Heart)
  • Best Actress: Sandra Bullock (for The Blind Side)
  • Best Supporting Actor: Cristoph Waltz (for Inglorious Basterds)
  • Best Supporting Actress: Mo'nique (for Precious)

Of all the speeches that I've heard on the show, I like Mo'nique and Christoph Waltz the best. They sounded heartfelt to me.

fart simpson

It is said that the best thing to do when you fart in public is to act innocent, and if that fails, blame someone else! However, you may need to be careful of that last tactic though, as the person who smelt it first is ALWAYS the culprit! Ha ha!

Of late, Little Bee has been displaying a subtle ability to fart in the car and got his daddyness annoyed. As if lah dia tak pernah kentut dalam kereta kan?

"Hisyy, busuknya kentut si Bee ni", and he would lower the car window to let the foul smell out.

"How did you know it was his, it could be yours. We all know how loud your fart sounds and smells like..", I retorted in Little Bee's defense.

"I just know its his. His fart has that distinct smell. You know a person who drinks milk, they fart the smelliest", answered the husband confidently. Whoa! The husband could figure out which food emits the foulest gas. Cool!

Little Bee still drinks milk in a milk bottle and he's gonna be 5 this year!

"Ek eleh, you fart the smelliest when you eat petai, did you know that? And I dare not venture into the bathroom after you use it!", I told the husband. LOL!

Anyway, the five of us went to the photo shop yesterday to have the kid's picture taken in passport size. Kak Long has been nagging about this since earlier this week. It was supposed to be only Kak Long's but as usual, it ended with all 3 of them taking pictures instead. Aiyah!

On the way, Little Bee had done it again. This time it was a bit louder for everybody to hear and as always, muka dia poyo jer. Soon after that, a whiff of aroma began to linger in the car and the husband lowered the car window immediately.

"Bee has the busukest kentut ever.." yelled Kak Ngah at the back, pinching her nose, followed by hysterical laughters from everyone. I couldn't agree more.

Little Bee oh Little Bee. That was some powerful grenade you got there.

bonding time

sedang khusyuk berkebun..

a landscape artist at work? not. a penyibuk is more like it...

I think he enjoys digging the soil rather than trimming the leaves..

It was a rare occasion to see the husband tending the garden (tee hee hee) but seeing Little Bee helping his dad was indeed a kodak moment.

January girls

The girls celebrated their birthdays recently with La Manila cake (Tiramisu cheesecake) at their grandma's house.

Since they shared the same month but only a week apart, we thought a single cake would suffice. And look who keeps menyibuk at the cake-cutting ceremony if not Little Bee. Ish ish ish!

I have a hobby and its not collecting dust!

freebies from McDonalds during their promotion late last year. Lurve the shape and colors. I was short of one glass, the last week of promotion and I was really bummed coz they didn't have stock even if I offer to pay triple of its price. sheesh!

I believe that everyone in this world should have a hobby. Its a great pastime and sometimes, certain hobby could actually generate income for the hobbyist. Mine is the cheapest hobby around coz I don't need to splurge a lot since I am such a cheapskate. Ha ha!

My hobby is collecting freebies from hotels, exhibitions and McDonalds for the past several years. I love these collectible items such as toiletries from the hotels. Each hotel has their own logo inscribed on the bottles which makes them so authentic. You can't find one the same in another hotel. And they came in standard; shower gel, soap bar, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste.

Lately, the husband has been complaining that my hobby had caused the bedroom to look more like a storeroom than a bedroom. Ha ha!

toiletries from a hotel in Las Vegas he visited last year...

these items comes in handy when you're out of shampoo or toothpaste in that moment of desperation...

So what's your hobby? I hope its not Peeping Tom for the guys. LOL.

pants on the ground

Saw this spunky 62 year old rapper General Larry Pratt who auditioned for American Idol yesterday and thought he was hilariously funny. He reminded me so much of William Hung, another interesting character from previous season. LOL!

Pants on the ground
Pants on the ground
Lookin' like a fool
With your pants on the ground
Gold in your mouth
Hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat
Looking like a fool
Walking down town
With your pants on the ground..

As Simon said, he had a horrible feeling that this song will be a hit and I think he's right coz I can't stop humming it in my head.

*For some strange reason, I can't upload the video or link in my post so if you want to see it go to youtube and type the words, Pants on the Ground*

keeping up with the KardaCians

Little Bee's first day at school went without a glitch. On the first day itself, the husband suggested that Little Bee should take the school van instead of us sending him. Of course, I was a bit apprehensive, knowing how distractive Little Bee can be but when the husband said that we will follow behind to check on him (or rather his behaviour), I agreed.

When we arrive at the school, there were not many parents around. I saw one mother sitting on the floor next to her daughter with her face slumped on her mother's lap at the corner of the classroom and judging by the look on her face, she must have been exasperated.

I scanned the room and saw Little Bee sitting comfortably on the floor doing brick puzzles and he looked somewhat at ease. He looked quite happy and seems not bothered with the alien surroundings. Ah, the very characteristic of an ADD child, it must be.

I'm so glad that Little Bee has managed to adapt himself so well in kindy and I must say, I am grateful that his kindy had accepted someone like him. I wish for all kindies to have special class for special kids. They deserved to be educated and not ignored and we are very far behind in understanding special needs children ie the difficulty learning kids, the hyper-active ADD/ADHD kids, dyslexia kids, autistic kids. These are kids who look normal physically but with disorders and I assume these are the very reason our government didn't take them seriously.

Why would I say that? Because our Prime Minister's wife is making great effort channeling money to build special school for the geniuses instead! I wonder if she's aware that there are special needs kids like my son for instance who also need the same kind of school for special needs? I consider my son fortunate because his parents could afford to send him to private kindy and rather expensive one at that (not trying to brag here) but what about those kids from hard-core poor and lower-income families who can't afford to send their kids to private kindy?

Meanwhile, Kak Ngah is in Year 3 and Kak Long is in Year 6. Gosh, can't believe how grown up they are especially Kak Long. She is about 2 inches shorter than me and still grows like a giraffe. Pretty soon, it would be me looking up at her instead of the opposite. Sigh. She had been telling me that some of her girlfriends had been experiencing some form of haemorrhage every month and she kept on asking when will her turn be. I jokingly told her that she should be enjoying her period-less before BFF (best friend forever) crosses her path and turn her life upside down for the next 40 years!

Kak Long had also been sternly reminded that this year she isn't going to be on honeymoon mode. She has to eat, sleep, talk and shit books all day! And Sergeant Mom had been entrusted by General Dad to keep Kak Long under close watch, in case she tries to flee from the drill. LOL!

As for me, life goes on as usual and I have Facebook to thank for.

These days, when I'm not watching the kids as often as before, I'm always there.

Almost everyday.

tranquility

this is how the living room looks like typically when not terrorized by Little Bee..

Its the second week of school and the house seems to appear quiet at this time. Little Bee had gone to pre-school in the afternoon session so has Kak Ngah. While waiting for Kak Long to return from the morning session, I had the house all by myself for an hour.

Bliss!

I should be enjoying this moment of peacefulness while it lasts.
