True grit

If there's any woman out there who keeps complaining about her looks then this story might change her perspective forever.

Did anyone watch Oprah Winfrey show last night? I was shocked to see a faceless woman giving interview  about how she was mauled by her friend's chimpanzee. It must be a harrowing and traumatic experience for her. To show the whole world  her horribly deformed face takes a lot of courage.

If you could see the extensive damage on her face, you'd think that she would not survive the attack. But she did. She no longer has eyes, mouth, nose and a large chunk of flesh from her face. Her face was so hollow. It is so severe that no amount of plastic surgery could ever mend it. She also has difficulty eating solid food and her speech is slurry. Both her hands' injury were so severe (they look like they went through a meat grinder as the paramedics quoted when they found her) that only a thumb from her right hand could be salvaged. The facial muscle is totally damaged  making it hard to reconstruct face transplant.

Charla Nash before the attack...

Charla after the attack. because of her extensive injury she has to wear a veil so that people won't get scared looking at her. kesian kan?

what was left of her...

This particular episode touched the issue of having exotic animals as pet. As Charla said, these animals are dangerous and that they should belong in the wilds not living among the humans. No matter how tame they look, there's always that scary feeling when surrounded by these captive animals. They shouldn't belong in the zoo either. They should roam freely in the jungles.

To Charla, you are one truly remarkable woman.
