It all began when Kak Long told me about the trip to Genting Highlands organised by her school recently. She had been talking endlessly about the trip ever since she got the borang mintak kebenaran from her class teacher months before UPSR exam started.
So being the overly concerned parents that we are, the husband and I decided that she should get a handphone for this sole purpose. After all, we didn't want to repeat the same experience we had last year when she was totally unreachable during the Lumut trip. The bus was 2 hours late and we had to call several people to finally be able to talk to her and yg paling sadis tu, we only wanted to know what time the bus will reach home so that I could fetch her on time. Imagine the state of restlessness we went through...sigh!
So, a day before the trip, the husband bought RM20 worth of maxis hotlink pre-paid sim card for Kak Long and had it activated on my old Sony Ericsson handphone. As expected, Kak Long was so over the moon with her new (read: hand-down more like it) handphone. I bet for a kid like her, having a handphone is probably comparable to getting a flashy sports car for a rich kid's birthday.
From the moment she had her breakfast to getting on the bus to reaching the destination right up to boarding the cable car to ferry them to the theme park, Kak Long had been texting me every hour of the day just to inform me of her whereabouts! Even nak masuk toilet pun nak bagitahu...ish3x. Tak tau la part mana yg dia excited sangat tu, dapat gi Genting ka atau dapat henfon? Hehehe...
It turns out that Kak Long is much more savvy than me in terms of IT skills. I was kinda awed by her superb knowledge on how to upload new applications into her handphone folders and she kept changing her screensavers in a myriad of gothic and edgy themes everyday! Not only that, she had it accesorrized with a chain that looks more like a bracelet with chunky heart shape stones. Huh, typical teenagers!
Anyway, rules are rules. There will be no contacting boys or vice versa or getting their numbers listed in her contact list or otherwise it will be confiscated pronto! I am that paranoid, can never trust too much with impressionable kids these days....huhuhu.
So far, I'd like to think that she has played by my rules.
